Documentary-Style Photography
I am primarily a documentary-style photographer. I like images that evoke a feeling of place, personality, and wonder. For me, this is usually best done through series of candid photographs, environmental portraits, and still image details. Whenever possible, I prefer to photograph in dramatic lighting.
I learned photography in the days of film and still prefer photographs with the look of film. I like dark, contrasty, grainy black and white images and earthy, unsaturated color photographs.
Documentary-Style Weddings & Events
Memories of your wedding day shouldn’t be all the time you spent with your photographer in uncomfortable poses, away from your family and friends. If you want someone to capture your wedding day with visual memories rather than creating a series of perfectly posed photographs, a documentary-style wedding photographer may be what your looking for. This style isn’t for everyone, and that is OK. I began to appreciate this style when friends and family members made comments that they preferred my candid photographs of their wedding over the posed photos taken by their photographer. I found a similar sentiment in the photographs of my children. I prefer my candid images over the posed photos for which we’ve paid other photographers.
Mobile Studio Portraits and Headshots
The high overhead cost of a studio location isn’t part of my business plan. However, I do have a mobile lighting and backdrop system that allows me to travel within the local area.
